Today I would like to recognize and reward 2 amazing children named Nicholas (age 8 ) and Morgan (age 10). I've had the pleasure of being their babysitter for many years now and they are truly an inspiration to me. For Christmas, Nicholas happily gave up extra gifts from me and told me he wanted to donate to help the homeless. Thanks to Nicholas, some homeless veterans got some new hats and gloves to keep them warm.
Morgan impressed me on her 9th birthday. I asked her what she wanted for a gift and she told me she didn't want any gifts. I was confused, but then she explained to me that she was giving up all gifts and asking people to send gifts to the children at Ronald McDonald House instead. Wow...what an amazingly unselfish act! This wasn't just one gift. This was all the gifts from all family and friends that she was giving up! I told her I'd buy one gift for the kids and still get her a gift too, but she insisted she didn't need anything. So we ended up picking out 2 gifts for the kids.
Nicholas and Morgan, I feel so lucky to have had the privilege of watching you grow up. I am very proud of you and I want you to know that seeing you young children do such unselfish things was one of the things that inspired me to start KDS. I told myself that if there were children happily giving up gifts so that they could make others smile, I could certainly do more too.
